Temperature: 74 – 80°F
pH: 6.0 – 8.2
Adult size: 3-4 inches
Sexing: Males are larger and more brightly colored than females
Diet: Accepts flakes and pellets, prefers frozen or live invertebrates such as blackworms and brine shrimp. Will also take insects such as small crickets or fruit flies.
Conspecifics: Males may become territorial in smaller tanks, but otherwise does well singly or in groups.
Tankmates: Peaceful with most unaggressive fish, avoid very small tankmates (<1”) as they might be eaten.
Notes: The name “killifish” is derived from the Dutch word kil for “small stream,” and refers to the fish’s habitat—not any particular killing ability! Golden wonder killifish were selectively bred from wild populations of striped panchax for their distinctive colors. A specialized surface predator, this fish is an excellent jumper and can detect passing shadows using its parietal eye, a silvery organ visible at the top of its head.
